Tibet: Man executed after being convicted of killing ex-wife on live broadcast

A Chinese man was executed after being convicted of murder of his ex-wife. The victim was live-streaming on social media when the assailant hit her fireleading her to a violent death.

According to the British newspaper “The Guardian”the autonomous people’s court Tibetan and Chiang of Ngawa Prefecture, confirmed the execution of Tang Lu.

Tang Lu set his ex-wife on fire in September 2020 while she was live streaming on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok run by the same parent company.

The 30-year-old woman, known online as Lumo, posted content from her everyday life. She was Tibetan and used to wear traditional costumes. She died of her injuries a few weeks after the attack.

Lumo’s sister revealed to Paper, a Shanghai-based media outlet, that the 30-year-old had been a victim of domestic violence for years before she finally decided to file for divorce.

The perpetrator was arrested a few days after the murder and had filed an appeal against the decision, which, however, was not accepted.

Recently, there has been a particular uproar on the internet surrounding the case of the murder, with citizens expressing their strong criticism of the legislation surrounding divorces, among other things.
