Three U.S. agencies warned of rising ransomware threat at once

The FBI has issued guidance to users on how to prevent cyberattacks and asked them to report any information about hackers, including IP addresses and crypto wallet addresses.

The US Cybersecurity Council, which includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Interstate Clearinghouse and Analysis Center, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, released a bulletin as part of the #StopRansomware campaign. It aims to inform US citizens about how to protect themselves from ransomware.

Security experts say they expect a surge in attacks from similar programs, primarily aimed at educational institutions. They are the least protected from well-prepared cyberattacks and do not have sufficient resources to defend themselves:

“Over the past few years, the education sector, from kindergarten to high school, has been frequently attacked by ransomware. The consequences ranged from restricting access to internal networks and data to exam delays, class cancellations and student identity theft.”

The FBI explained that it would welcome any information about ransomware bitcoin wallets and ransomware, IP addresses associated with the criminals. It is reported that this will help the authorities quickly track down illegal transactions on the chain, preventing attackers from covering their tracks.

Security experts have advised cryptocurrency users not to pay ransomware to ransomware, as this still does not guarantee the recovery of stolen files.

Earlier, the FBI issued advisories advising investors to be cautious about investing in decentralized finance (DeFi) projects due to their high susceptibility to hacks.
