The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), linked to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, published this Monday (22) three special weather warnings of danger , due to the forecast of intense rains in several states. The institute uses three colors to signal the degree of danger: yellow (potential danger), orange (danger) and red (great danger).
A Special attention is paid to the region that extends from the Recôncavo of Bahia, from the surroundings of Baía de Todos-os-Santos, to part of the south of the state. .
Another danger alert from Inmet, at the orange level, began at 10:15 am this Monday, and will end on Tuesday (23), at 10 am. In addition to the north of Minas Gerais, central-south Bahia and central-north Espírito Santo, the warning is valid for Mato Grosso, all of Mato Grosso do Sul, central and southwestern Pará; north, northwest and center-south of Goiás, northwest of Paraná, east of Rondônia, center-south and southeast of Amazonas, western Tocantins, Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba, southeast of Pará, in addition to Araçatuba and Presidente Prudente (SP).
According to Inmet, in these locations rainfall can vary between 30 and 60 millimeters (mm) per hour or between 50 and 100 mm per day.
Intense winds can reach 60 to 100 km/h. The warning warns of the risk of electrical discharges and power cuts, falling tree branches, flooding and others.
The third danger alert covers the coasts of Santa Catarina, Paraná and São Paulo. The warning is for accumulated rainfall that could exceed 100 millimeters. The affected areas are: Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, Vale do Itajaí, Norte Catarinense, Litoral Sul Paulista and Greater Florianópolis.
The weather warning at Inmet's yellow level began at 10:44 am this Monday and will end on Tuesday, at 10 am. According to the agency, the volume of rain may vary from 20 mm/h to 30 mm/h or up to 50 mm/day, in areas of Bahia, Piauí, Pernambuco, Tocantins, Goiás, Distrito Federal, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, part of Amazonas, Pará, Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba.
The winds must be intense, with estimated speeds between 40 km/h and 60 km/h. However, the risk of electricity cuts, falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharges was assessed as low by meteorologists.
North East
Inmet also reported that until Friday (26), practically the entire Northeast region will experience heavy rainfall, which could accumulate more than 100 mm, from Sunday (21) to Friday. And the most significant rains are expected to hit, mainly, the states of Bahia, Piauí and Ceará.
Inmet meteorologist Dayse Moraes explains that the rain showers, accompanied by electrical discharges and gusts of wind, occur due to typical summer meteorological systems, such as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ZCIT) and the probable formation of a humidity channel, organized by the presence of a low pressure system, coming from the Atlantic Ocean.
“Due to the convergence of humidity, some more intense rains should be increased in areas of Bahia. Special attention to the central-south of the state. In other areas, as of Monday, there is still a forecast of rain spread across much of Brazil, due to the heat and high humidity”, explains the meteorologist.
Semi-arid
Inmet indicates that the intense rain will also be responsible for changing the hot and dry scenario recorded in recent days, especially in the Brazilian semi-arid region. Inmet predicts that the rain will also contribute to increasing soil moisture and increasing the level of water reservoirs.
In the states of the Northern Region, Acre, Amazonas and Rondônia, isolated rain showers with smaller accumulations cannot be ruled out. In Roraima, little rain is forecast.
Recommendations
The federal government makes self-protection recommendations for emergency situations, involving intense rain.
In case of gusts of wind, citizens should not take shelter under trees, as there is a risk of falling and electrical discharges. Vehicles should also not be parked near transmission towers or advertising signs.
Inmet clarifies that the use of electronic devices connected to the socket must be avoided and the general power supply must be turned off, as well as the water inlet valve closed.
The National Secretariat for Civil Protection and Defense of the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development created an online booklet, available on the department's website, with preventive measures and also guidance on how to act before, during and after possible occurrences of extreme events, such as floods, floods, windstorms, hail or electrical discharges, landslides, among other dangerous situations.
For further information, telephone lines for the state Civil Defense, number 199, and the state Military Fire Department, number 193, are available throughout the country; Military Police (190) and Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu-192)
