A police chase ended in tragedy at dawn on Friday (18), at the time of Vicar General, in the northern part of Rio de Janeiro. Around 1h, a vehicle of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) collided with a passenger car after chasing two bikes that disrespected a spot -mounted blitz.
During the chase, the PRF car lost control, collided with several posts and hit the vehicle where a family was – a couple and the daughter, a child, who were not injured. They were attended on site and released.
The collision was fatal to the three federal police officers who were in the car, all men about 47. A fourth victim, rescued with life, was sent to Getúlio Vargas Hospital.
Teams from the Parade de Lucas headquarters were fired, with the support of teams from Guadalupe, Penha and Irajá, as well as rescuers from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu).
The suspects have managed to escape and steps are being carried out to seek images of security cameras that may have recorded the action.
In a statement, Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, expressed “deep regret” for the occurrence and said that the government will “provide all the necessary support to family members at this time of pain.”
