At least three people have died and seven are missing after a boat carrying migrants capsized off the coast of southern Spain in the Mediterranean, Spain's maritime rescue service said today. The agency said another vessel sent a distress call at 8 a.m. local time when it spotted the half-submerged black vessel 26 nautical miles south of Cape Sakratif in the town of Motril. Rescuers found five passengers on board, three of whom were dead. The two survivors were airlifted to hospital and are in serious condition, suffering from hypothermia. Survivors told rescue personnel that a total of 12 people were on board when the boat left Algeria six days ago. This prompted a search operation for the seven people believed to be missing.
