Launched by Meta to compete with X, formerly Twitter O Threads appears to have gained a greater number of daily users than the social network controlled by Elon Musk.
According to data from Apptopia obtained and published by Business Insider, since December last year the Threads has more registered daily users in the United States than X .
Mark Zuckerberg's Meta social network had an estimated average of 28 million daily active users – those who opened the application at least once in a 24-hour period – in the month of April. This represents an increase of around 55% compared to December.
X, formerly Twitter, had an average of 22 million daily active users in April. This number has been stable over the last three months, but represents an increase of 29% compared to December.
December was the first month in which the number of daily Threads users exceeded X, and, according to Apptopia, this situation has been consistent since then.
However, monthly active users — those who open the app at least once a month — in the US continue to be higher on X, formerly Twitter (around 140 million), than on Threads (around 100 million), according to Apptopia data published by Business Insider.
Although it had a record number of registered users in less than a week, Threads still has a long way to go to consolidate itself as a possible replacement for X, formerly Twitter — which, since its acquisition by billionaire Elon Musk in 2022, has lost patronage and users.
Threads has some similarities to X, as do several other social media sites that have sprung up in hopes of taking advantage of the social networking “crisis” under Musk. It allows posts of up to 500 characters and include links, photos and videos of up to 5 minutes.
