Thousands of people marched through the center of London on Saturday (19) to protest a decision made earlier this week by the UK’s Supreme Court, which determined that the legal definition of women was based on biological sex.
Protesters gathered in front of the Supreme Court, protesting against Wednesday’s decision (16), which determines that only biological women, not trans women, fall into the definition of women according to equality laws.
It was a historic decision received with concern by the advocates of trans rights, but acclaimed by the government for bringing “clarity.”
The long-awaited decision focused on whether a trans certificate with a certificate of gender recognition (GRC in English), a formal document that legally recognizes one’s new genre, is protected against discrimination as women by the law of British equality.
A Reuters reporter present at the scene estimated that at least three thousand people participated in the protest.
