Thousands of people took to the streets of the capital of Peru and other Peruvian cities, this Friday (28), to ask for the departure of President Dina Boluarte. The demonstrations are a continuation of the so-called Third Taking of Lima, in which several mobilizations were organized against the current government.
President Dina Boluarte is in the Peruvian Congress this Friday afternoon, speaking to the nation. She said she will forward a bill to the Legislature that will grant her special powers to fight what she called “increased insecurity and criminality.”
Dina Boluarte took power in 2023, after the arrest of then-president Alfredo Castillo, who had attempted a self-coup to prevent an impeachment process. The arrest generated revolt in part of the population that supports the ousted president and considers him a victim of the political system and the legislative power, currently under the control of right-wing and center-right parties.
