Tens of thousands of faithful have been lined up to bid farewell to Pope Francis, whose body is exposed to an open coffin at St. Peter’s Basilica. On Wednesday morning, up to 20,000 people gathered to watch cardinals and priests to accompany the coffin from the Pope’s personal residence. The bells hit during the 40 -minute procession, and the crowd burst into applause – a traditional Italian sign of respect, the British BBC reports. Nine days of mourning will be observed in the Vatican. The funeral of the Argentine Pontiff will take place on Saturday.
