Turkey’s anger was caused by a demonstration outside its Great Mosque Sweden located in Stockholm, as a protester put bacon in the Korantore out its pages and then the burned.
In fact, the Police gave permission earlier for the small gathering in front of Stockholm’s largest mosque, during which the organizer had announced that he would burn a copy of the Koran, during first day of the great Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha.
About 200 bystanders today saw one of two rally organizers tear pages from a copy of the Koran and wipe his shoes with them before putting a piece of bacon inside the book and setting it on fire to burn it, while the other protester spoke to loudspeaker.
Some bystanders chanted “Allah is great” in Arabic to protest the burning, and one man was arrested by police after he tried to throw a stone.
THE Ankara’s reaction was immediatewith the Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan to condemn a “vulgar” and “indecent” action.
“I condemn the act the despicable act committed against our Holy Book, of the Holy Quran, on the first day of Eid al-Adha,” wrote the Turkish Foreign Minister on his Twitter account. “It is unacceptable to allow these anti-Islamic actions under the guise of freedom of expression.”
“Turning a blind eye to such heinous acts indicates complicity,” the head of Turkish diplomacy continued.
The organizer of today’s gathering, the 37-year-old Saluan Momikawho states that he is Iraqi refugee and wants the Koran banned, had previously stated that he wanted to “make his point.” “I want to tear up the Koran and burn it,” he wrote in the request he submitted to the Police.
