The director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, told CNN that the institution collaborates with 195 countries on intelligence cases and that “there is nothing to talk about combating organized crime without international cooperation”.
The speech is in relation to Operation Trapiche, this Wednesday (8), which arrested two Brazilians linked to the radical Islamic group Hezbollah and carried out 11 search and seizure warrants in Brasília, Minas Gerais and São Paulo.
According to the investigation, the group was planning attacks on important buildings belonging to the Jewish community in Brazil and the PF Combating Terrorism Division discovered it. The investigation, once launched, included the collaboration of international police, such as agencies from the United States and Israel. Other countries also cooperated.
Police cooperation is carried out between police officers from diplomatic partner countries who exchange information and data to assist in ongoing or closed investigations.
“Our role is to do this. We always have real news. And we won’t shy away from acting. We have offices in 20 countries and collaborate with Interpol in 195 countries. Cooperation and information exchange are routine actions. There is no way to talk about combating organized crime without international cooperation. In this action, there was collaboration from several countries”, commented the delegate to the report.
Investigation advances
In a statement to the PF, someone investigated in this network of terrorist attack plans confirmed to investigators that he was recruited by the radical group Hezbollah, according to the report. The PF begins to investigate the connection between this man, who had a search and seizure warrant at his home, and the other targets.
CNN learned that new statements will be taken and that the investigation continues to disrupt the Brazilian network with links to Hezbollah.
“Intelligence is our essence [PF]. Carry out crime investigation in search of the truth, the circumstances of the crimes. We do this every day, with tools and techniques”, added Andrei Rodrigues.
