There is no evidence that Covid-19 originated in a laboratory in China, say US

US intelligence agencies have found no direct evidence that the Covid-19 pandemic originated from an incident at the Institute of Virology in Wuhan, China, according to a report released on Friday.

The four-page report states that intelligence agencies still cannot rule out the possibility that the virus came from a laboratory. However, they have not been able to discover the origins of the pandemic.

“The Central Intelligence Agency and another agency remain unable to determine the precise origin of the Covid-19 pandemic, as both hypotheses (natural and laboratory) rely on significant assumptions or face objections with conflicting reports,” he said.

The agencies said that while “extensive work” was conducted at the Wuhan Institute (IVW), no evidence was found of a specific incident that could have caused the outbreak.

“We continue to have no indication that pre-pandemic IVW surveys included SARS-CoV-2 or a close progenitor, nor any direct evidence that a specific incident related to the survey occurred involving IVW personnel prior to the pandemic, that could have caused the Covid pandemic,” the report states.
