The governor of São Paulo, Tarcisio Freitas, told the CNN that the conversation with the Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França, about the privatization of the Port of Santos was positive.
“The conversation was good. There is an intention to cooperate,” said the governor.
The meeting lasted two hours and was classified by participants as a first friendly discussion on the topic. According to reports made to the CNN however, France showed resistance to the privatization of the port authority.
The government of São Paulo has argued that the privatization of the Port of Santos can benefit the population of the Baixada Fluminense and generate resources, for example, for the construction of a tunnel between Guarujá and Santos.
At the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Tarcísio was responsible for formatting the concession for the Port of Santos. The forecast is that it will go to auction this year and bring an amount of up to R$ 20 billion in investments.
The technical area of the TCU (Tribunal de Contas da União) supported the auction, but the plenary is awaiting guidance from the new management to proceed with the proposal.
