There is a need for housing programs to remove people from risk areas on the coast of SP, says Alckmin

The Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, visited the areas affected by the rains on the north coast of São Paulo.

During a press conference this Saturday (25), Alckmin stressed the importance of housing programs to take people out of risk areas.

“President Lula has already committed himself to the question of housing in the extra roof, the resource that grew the most was for housing: R$ 10.5 billion. What will have priority here in the risk regions and the return of track 1, because it is the poorest families who end up living in a place of greater risk, ”he said.

“There are 14,000 high-risk areas in Brazil. Population of 4 million people. So what has to be done? Prevention first. Hence the need for housing programs, because people have to live somewhere. Municipalities, states and the Union have to join forces”, he added.

Also during the press conference, Alckmin said that the State will provide the necessary help in the recovery of municipalities that were affected by the rains.

“The state government can count on the Ministry of Cities, with the housing area to be a partner in financing and resources for housing units. Everything that the federal government can help, President Lula the order is partnership, so it will help”, said the vice president.

The death toll after the heavy rains that hit the north coast of São Paulo last weekend rose to 57 this Friday (24), according to the government of São Paulo. There are 56 victims in São Sebastião and one in Ubatuba.

About 2,251 people are homeless and another 1,815 are homeless in the region. São Sebastião recorded more than 600 mm of rain in 24 hours last weekend.
