The usual move that nutritionist influencer made with his child’s food and caused a storm of reactions

An influencer and nutritionist has been criticized for a simple act that most of us often do without thinking. Ben Coomber, a nutritionist, speaker and podcast host from the UK, shared a video showing him preparing a healthy breakfast for the little one child of, hoping to inspire others to do the same. The video has been viewed more than 10 million times, while it has gathered thousands of comments.

“A porridge recipe I make for my daughter,” Ben wrote in the post accompanying the video. “I’ve been giving it to her since she was a year old and she loves it. Nutrientsgood healthy fats, low sugar content and easy to change the taste using different fruits, nuts, seeds and natural flavors – pea milk also provides good protein, which is lacking in many children’s breakfasts».

While most of his followers loved his recipe, there were some who claimed that there was a… flaw. What bothered them is that the video shows that just before serving his daughter the nutritious breakfast, he warmed it up in the microwave oven.

After all, what is true about microwaves?

But what is the truth? Does microwaving food destroy its nutrients? The expert answer is no… This is a myth, according to Anthony L. Komaroff, MD and editor-in-chief of the Harvard Health Letter.

“Cooking in a microwave oven is actually one of whatless likely forms of cooking which may to harm the nutrients in the food,” he said. This is “because the longer food is cooked, the more nutrients tend to break down, and cooking in microwave requires less time” explained the expert and continued “So cooking a roast in the oven is more likely to cause some loss of nutrients than cooking the roast in a microwave. And boiling vegetables is more likely to strip them of nutrients than roasting them cook in the oven or microwave them,” he added.

“This is because some nutrients are leached from food into the water. Thus, cooking in the microwave oven is not only fast, but sometimes also beneficial nutritionally,” he emphasized.
