The US armed forces announced today that in the last 24 hours they destroyed seven drones belonging to the Houthi rebels in the territory of Yemen. The United States’ joint command for the Middle East (CENTCOM, “Central Command”) clarified that remotely piloted unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and a vehicle that was a mobile control station of such systems were destroyed “in areas of Yemen controlled by the Houthis”. The Houthis – a movement that controls much of Yemen’s territory – have since November launched attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, an area crucial for global trade, in a show of “solidarity” with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, an enclave which has been besieged and bombed by the Israeli armed forces since October.
