In Kazakhstan, the group of illegal miners in court confiscated property worth more than 900 million tenge (about ₽144 million rubles). According to the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan on financial monitoring (AFM), a conviction was sentenced to three citizens who, from 2022 to May 2024, organized the activities of mining farm under the guise of a service for maintenance of engines. The illegal farm was discovered and closed in September 2024. During the search, 1,257 cryptocurrency production devices, fans for cooling and transformer substation were seized. Over the two years of the “black” miners, cryptocurrencies have obtained more than 143 million tenge (about ₽22.8 million).
The AFM noted that the company consumed electricity comparable to the monthly need of the residential area of a large city. The debt of the organizers of the farm for electricity, according to the investigation, amounted to 25.3 million tenge (more ₽4 million).
The court verdict they are found guilty under Part 2 of Art. 214 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan (illegal entrepreneurship, illegal banking, microfinance or collection activities). The defendants were sentenced to a fine.
The mining equipment seized when closing the farm, as well as two cars (Toyota Camry and Nissan Juke) were confiscated in favor of the state. The total value of this property amounted to more than 900 million tenge. Also, the amount of criminal income received by them was recovered from men.
The sphere of AFM activity includes counteracting the illegal turnover of cryptocurrencies, including the fight against illegal mining, illegal crypto exchangers and illegal operations with digital assets.
In January, AFM reported that three citizens of Kazakhstan were sentenced to prison and confiscation of property for organizing an illegal crypto exchanger. They received from 2.5 to 3.5 years in prison, they confiscated property worth about $ 750 thousand, including real estate, five cars, an ATV and computer equipment.
