On November 24, the UN Human Rights Council will hold a special meeting on the situation in Iranrocked by protests being suppressed by the Iranian regime.
The Council states that the meeting, which will be held in Geneva, will be dedicated to the deterioration of the human rights situation in Iran. The decision was taken at the request of the ambassadors of Germany and Iceland submitted to the United Nations in Geneva.
Convening a special meeting requires the support of 16 of the 47 member states – more than a third – of the Human Rights Council So far, 44 countries, including 17 members of the Council, have approved the German-Icelandic request.

Protests continue in Iran which were sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini after she was arrested for violating Islamic dress codes enforced against women by the Iranian regime.
At least 326 people have been killed in the crackdown on the protest movement, according to the Oslo-based non-governmental organization Iran Human Rights (IHR). The wave of protest has evolved into a movement against the theocratic regime that has led the country since the fall of the Shah in 1979, APE-MPE reports, citing AFP.
Thousands of peaceful protesters have also been arrested, according to UN human rights experts, among them many women, children, lawyers, activists and journalists.
