The terrible misadventure of a British tourist with Covid

As difficult as it may seem, the year 2020 has, for some, passed the level of angst and annoyance caused by the pandemic around the world. And among these unlucky ones, Ian Jones probably holds the head of the standings. The latter arrived a few months ago in India, a country severely affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. Manager of a fair trade business, he sells local products in his home country, the United Kingdom.

But at this time, Ian Jones is no longer working. He is hospitalized in intensive care after being bitten by an extremely poisonous king cobra near Jodphur, in the state of Rajasthan, as reported by Paris Match. Normally, Ian would have been quickly repatriated to the UK, but the Covid-19 wanted it otherwise. This disease, moreover, he caught it.

Call for donations to finance care

The son of the unfortunate, Seb Jones, appeals to the generosity of Internet users to help his father and finance his care. The cobra bite has given his father symptoms he hopes are temporary, but worrying. Ian Jones lost the use of his legs and went blind.

In the text that accompanies the call for donation, Seb Jones describes his father as a “fighter” and says that he was also sick with dengue and malaria. Yet he remains determined “to stay in India and to continue helping people in need”. In one day, the fundraising reached 10,000 pounds sterling (11,200 euros), 2,000 more than the initial objective.
