The sale of homes adds eight months of falls, falling by 13.3% in October

Transactions fell by 13.3% that month compared to October 2019, to 37,605 transactions, according to data published this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics. That setback is also 12 points higher than that of September.

However, in the monthly evolution, the photograph is more favorable and shows a certain stabilization of the market, since the number of operations was only 0.6% lower than in September. The used housing It continues to be the preferred option for buyers (79.5%), although new construction continues to gain ground and accounted for 20.5% of the transactions carried out in October.

In fact, the decline in second-hand homes is much more marked (-15.2%) than in the case of new homes (-5%) compared to the data for October 2019.

Regarding the property regime, 91.3% of the homes transferred by sale in October are free and 8.7% protected. In annual terms, the number of free homes transmitted by sale decreased by 12.9% and that of protected homes by 17%.

By communities, the regions with the highest number of transmissions per 100,000 inhabitants were the Valencian Community (135), Andalusia and the Region of Murcia (both with 120).

The regions with the highest annual increases in the number of home sales in October were Extremadura (31%), Principado de Asturias (21.6%) and Castilla y León (1.4%). For their part, the Balearic Islands (-28.7%), Catalonia (-24.4%) and La Rioja (-23.7%) registered the greatest decreases.
