The Prosecutor’s Office of the Irkutsk region conducted a raid to combat illegal mining

The prosecutor’s office of the Irkutsk region organized a raid to identify and eliminate violations of federal law related to the installation of equipment for illegal mining.

The department organized joint work with the regional departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Rospotrebnadzor, as well as the state housing supervision services of the region and energy sales organizations. The initiative was aimed at identifying and stopping illegal cryptocurrency mining.

As a result of the check, over 9,000 units of mining equipment were discovered and seized in a number of settlements. Illegal miners were fined 300,000 rubles, administrative cases were initiated against them for violating fire safety requirements and placing mining equipment in the attics of apartment buildings.

Law enforcement agencies draw the attention of entrepreneurs and individuals to the fact that the consequences of illegal mining can pose risks to the life and health of citizens due to an emergency power outage, noise from equipment operation and a threat to fire safety.

This year, energy retail companies have already filed more than 400 lawsuits with the courts to recover from citizens of the Irkutsk region who illegally installed mining equipment, fees for consumed electricity at an increased rate. The courts made positive decisions in the amount of about 100 million rubles.

All information about identified illegal miners was sent to the Federal Tax Service for the Irkutsk region. According to the results of the tax control measures taken, the total amount of income from mining activities declared by citizens and organizations amounted to about 3.5 million rubles.

In June, it became known that the organizers of a mining hotel in the Irkutsk region, who lured customers with favorable prices for renting space and electricity, fled with their equipment for a total of 100 million rubles.
