The GPP Economy spokesperson, Esther del BrÃo, presented this Wednesday in the Senate Economy Committee a motion to the Government requesting the creation of a Stock index that values the presence of women in the senior management of listed companies.
In her intervention, the popular spokeswoman has valued that the creation of this index “will motivate listed companies to advance in equality, in addition, it offers investment opportunities to investors who seek responsible investments, who want to print positive changes in business behavior and want to align their investment portfolios with those principles. ”
The vote in the Senate where the motion has been approved unanimously through a compromise amendment. The motion, presented by the PP in the Committee on Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, expressly urges the Government to “support the creation of a stock index with a gender perspective, which recognizes the work of listed companies to advance in the parity of its governing bodies.This index will be built with a philosophy similar to that of called the 4Good Ibex Index, representing a recognition of good corporate governance in matters of gender diversity.
In this sense, “its name is proposed as an index Gender Equality Ibex and among the aspects that must be included in its definition will be the percentage of women who hold senior management positions within the company, with special emphasis on the number of female directors, “he explained.
In addition, it proposes for its calculation the use of the annual publications of the Cnmv with a list or classification of listed companies, based on the presence of women on boards of directors and management teams. The CNMV may, thus, request from the companies those data that it does not have and that are accurate to prepare the aforementioned classification
