The number of municipalities in Bahia that are in an emergency situation has reached 19. The number was reinforced after the inclusion of São Miguel das Matas and Monte Santo in the list of cities most affected by the rains ravaging Bahia.
According to the state government, as of Tuesday (30) there were 5,481 displaced people and 1,476 homeless people, in addition to 19 isolated communities and 20 health units affected. The rains resulted in the deaths of at least five people, and left 13 injured, numbers that can be updated at any time.
The cities that had a declared emergency situation are: Anagé, Cansanção, Cícero Dantas, Cotegipe, Cravolândia, Dário Meira, Ibicuí, Iguaí, Ilhéus, Lagoa Real, Medeiros Neto, Muquém do São Francisco, Nova Canaã, Quijingue, Saubara, Ubaíra and Wanderley, São Miguel das Matas and Monte Santo.
When declaring such an emergency situation, municipalities have the possibility of presenting more immediate responses to protect the population, especially in cases where rescue and humanitarian aid operations are necessary.
This makes the delivery of materials such as cleaning and hygiene kits, as well as basic food baskets, faster, in addition to facilitating the arrival of donations of mattresses and blankets to the most affected population.

The Bahia Health Department reported that the affected locations have received technical visits from surveillance teams and provided urgent and emergency health assistance. They are also distributing medication kits and supplies, as well as hospital equipment to serve the population.
The Secretariat of Social Assistance and Development reported that it is financially supporting municipalities in providing occasional Social Assistance Benefits. “The resources transferred to city halls ensure social rent, food baskets, support for issuing civil documentation, among other services”, informs the Bahian government.
The Bahia Sem Fome program is guiding municipalities to make food baskets available to the population. 60 tons of food were donated to the cities of Wanderley, Medeiros Neto, Dário Almeida, Ilhéus, Cotegipe and Muquém do São Francisco.
