The number of people killed in Operation Verão, carried out by the Military Police of São Paulo in Baixada Santista, rose to 26. On Friday morning (16), an individual identified as Danone, identified as leader of a criminal faction, and two other associates died during a confrontation with police officers.
Agents from the Special Command and Operations (COE) went to an apartment located in the Santa Cruz dos Navegantes neighborhood, in Guarujá, where the criminals were. At the scene, the agents were shot at by the three individuals, according to the Public Security Secretariat.
According to investigations, Danone was involved in international drug trafficking and money laundering. Among the crimes committed, he had already attacked public agents and was identified as one of those responsible for the death of a sergeant in 2012.
Furthermore, the criminal was caught shooting at a Federal Revenue vessel in 2015.
At the end of last year, the Civil Police and the Navy located a rifle, two pistols and drugs in his home.
According to the Secretary of Public Security, so far 634 criminals have been arrested in the operation, with 236 wanted by the courts.
