The new USB 4 Version 2.0 standard is twice as fast as the previous one. No need to change cables

The USB Promoter Group has announced a new USB standard, USB 4 Version 2.0. Its throughput is 80 Gb/s, which is an absolute record among all USB specifications. For comparison, USB 4 Gen 1 (like Thunderbolt 4) has a 40 Gb/s rate.

USB 4 Version 2.0 uses an updated physical architecture and improvements in the data transfer protocol – due to this, the throughput has increased and the work has become more efficient. Current USB/Thunderbolt 4 40 Gb/s cables will reportedly be able to support the maximum transfer rate of the updated standard. There is also backward compatibility with USB 4 (1.0), USB 3.2, USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt 3.

Since the USB Promoter Group includes major technology giants such as Apple, Microsoft and Intel, USB 4 Version 2.0 is unlikely to be a problem.
