The Israeli one Mossad announced today that agents arrested her at Iran the man who allegedly planned terrorist attack against Israelis in Cyprusunderlining that his interrogation “on Iranian soil” led to the dismantling of the network by the Cypriot authorities.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office issued a statement on Sunday hailing the intelligence operation “which prevented an Iranian terrorist attack against Israelis in Cyprus“, without going into details.
Cypriot media, citing unnamed sources, had reported that a plan to attack Israeli or Jewish targets, prepared by suspects in the Occupied Territories, had been thwarted.
According to the Mossad, an Iranian man named Youssef Shahabazi Abasalilou was “captured” during an “anti-terrorist operation on Iranian soil”. During his interrogation, he allegedly confessed that “received detailed instructions and weapons from senior officers of the Revolutionary Guards” to assassinate an Israeli businessman in Cyprus.
In a video released by the Mossad, the arrested person can be seen giving details of his arrival in Cyprus and the preparations for the assassination attempt on the Israeli with the help of “Pakistanis” who were on the island. He says he was ordered to return to Iran because the Cypriot police were on his trail.
Thanks to the information he gave to the investigators, “the terrorist cell was dismantled during an operation by the Cypriot security services”, notes the Mossad, referring to “a barrage of arrests last week in Cyprus”.
