There are five Palestinians who were killed during conflicts with Israeli forces in the sector of Tulkarem, in the northern part of the occupied West Bankthe director of a Palestinian hospital announced in the early hours of today, Tuesday (14/11).
The five Palestinians, aged between 21 and 29, lost their lives, as reported by the Athens News Agency, during an operation by the Israeli army in the city and refugee camp of Tulkarem, Amin Hader, director of the Thambet Hospital, where their deaths were confirmed.
Eyewitnesses in the refugee camp spoke of fierce clashes and deployment of strong Israeli forces in the region to deal with youths.
The Israeli military would only confirm to AFP that it was conducting an operation in this sector of the occupied West Bank. He had no comment on the casualty count.
The official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported, citing hospital sources, that three of the victims were killed in a UAV strike, while the remaining two were killed by gunfire in the refugee camp, according to Reuters.
On Thursday (9/11) Palestinian health authorities announced 14 deaths in Jenin, a sector of the northern West Bank where the situation is tense; it was the deadliest raid there since 2005, the year the UN began counting deaths in Israeli operations.
According to the Israeli army, its operations are a reaction to the “great increase in terrorist attacks” in the West Bank, an area occupied by Israel since 1967: it speaks of “more than 550 attempted attacks since the beginning of the war” with the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip on October 7.
Since the outbreak of war, at least 180 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by fire from Israeli soldiers or Jewish settlers, according to Palestinian health authorities.
