After one devastating episode of “The Last of Us” On Sunday night (20), the creators of the story, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann They talked about the experience of adapting one of the most significant moments of the game to the live-action series: Joel’s death .

Mazin and Druckmann have created the video game game franchise together and act as executive producers in the series that brings history to the screens.

“I think there is something in the live-action adaptation that makes everything brighter. We talked a lot about it throughout the season. There are other times when we need to make certain adjustments because of it,” Druckmann said about the scene where Abby (Kaitlyn Duty) torture and kills Joel (Pedro Paschal) in the series in an interview with Variety.

“But it is also important to see brutality. You played the game and you know how important the mindset of all [os personagens] About what happened to Joel going forward, as well as the choices they make. So we couldn’t spare the public either, because we need them to have this same mindset, ”he added.

Mazin also said that part of the impact caused by the scene is to see the humiliation of such a powerful character.

“Joel is humiliated here in a way that is leaving the heart. He can’t get off the ground, but almost gets up, because Ellie asks. It’s so disturbing. We don’t do these things to hurt people. We’re doing it because we are with Ellie, and she’s going through this horrible thing we’ll go through, it’s just sadness and suffering.

The two producers were thrilled during the interview when talking about the moment when Ellie (Bella Ramsey) reaches the cottage and finds Joel injured, just before her death.

“If there is a person in the world who could make him do the impossible, it would be Ellie telling him to get up. It also tells us that he knows she was there and that he managed to see her,” Mazin said, crying.

“Even as writers, we want Joel to get up. We love this character,” added Druckmann.
