The Kremlin denies reports that the Nord Stream turbine is delayed in returning to Russia

The Kremlin spokesman rejected reports that the transfer process of the turbine for the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which carries gas from Russia to Germany, is being delayed.

Reuters reported yesterday that Russia has not yet given the ‘green light’ to bring the turbine back to Russia, two people with knowledge of the matter said. In a teleconference with reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed the reports as “nonsense.”

Russia reduced flow through Nord Stream 1 to 40% of capacity in June, citing delays in returning a turbine from Canada where it had been sent for maintenance.

Western sanctions prevented the smooth return of the turbine, with Canada forced to issue a special permit to allow it to be sent to Germany.

However, Germany rejects Russia’s argument that the turbine is the reason for the reduction in supplies through Nord Stream 1 and claims that the turbine was due to be commissioned after September anyway. Berlin claims that Moscow is effectively using the gas flows as a political weapon.
