The head of Emblem Vault has lost $ 100,000 from a zoom call cryptocurrency

The General Director of the Emblem Vault NFT platform Jake Gallen announced a loss of $ 100,000 in cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin and Ethereum) due to hacking his computer.

According to Gallen, the offender under the nickname Elusive Comet gained access to the system during a zoom call. The hacker introduced himself as the founder of the mining platform and had a verified account in X (previously Twitter) with more than 26,000 subscribers, but did not include the camera during the conversation.

CEO EMBLEM Vault noted that he installed the Hoopdate malicious file after it was convinced to give permission to access the computer during the Zoom call. This program was kidnapped by accounting data and provided access to cryptocurrencies, including Ledger’s hardware wallet, which Gallen used only several times in the last three years.

After the incident, the victim began cooperation with the cybersecurity company The Security Alliance (Seal). They stated that Elusive Comet probably organized a large -scale campaign against crypto -users. The attacker supposedly acts on behalf of Aureon Capital, which impersonates the venture company.

At the end of 2024, Slowmist experts warned about phishing attacks through fake zoom. Already in March of next year, representatives of cryptostarts spoke about the scheme of fraud with video calls.
