The hacker, which stole crypto acts for $ 5 million from ZKSYNC, second -level blockchain for scaling the Ethereum network, returned 90% of the stolen funds for a 10% reward.

The ZKSYNC leadership said that the hacker transferred almost $ 5.7 million to the ZKSYNC Security Council in the Ethereum during three transactions. First, he transferred ZK tokens in the amount of $ 2.47 million and broadcasts in the amount of $ 1.83 million. Then the cracker returned another 776 ETH to $ 1.4 million.

ZKSYNC reported that the hacker had a deal with the developers who asked him to return the stolen cryptocurrencies within 72 hours for the reward. Otherwise, ZKSYNC would refer the case to law enforcement agencies for investigation. Considering that the hacker has complied with all ZKSYNC instructions, the case is closed without consequences for the cracker.

The ZKSYNC team assured that user funds were not compromised. The creators of the protocol promised to publish a detailed security violation. The incident occurred on April 15 – the hacker hacked the registration of the administrator of ZKSYNC. This made it possible to use a certain function of the contract for the distribution of tokens during Airdrop. The attacker stole 111 million unclaimed ZK tokens, which at the time of the attack cost about $ 5 million.

The returned $ 5.7 million nominally exceeded the cost of the originally stolen crypto acts due to the growth of their market value. After the attack, ZK and ETH increased by 16.6% and 8.8%, respectively. However, the refund of assets did not affect the further growth of ZK token. On the contrary, it fell by 3%per day. Now the token is trading for $ 0.05469, and its market capitalization is $ 201 million.

Recently, the KiloEx decentralized exchange suffered from a hacker attack, with which crypto activists of $ 7.4 million were stolen. Later, the hacker agreed to return the exchange part of the funds – 1.4 million USDT stabilcoins.
