The Russian-held fifth reactor nuclear power plant of Zaporizhia was reconnected to the Ukrainian grid today, a day after it was shut down due to shelling near the station’s site, Ukraine’s state-run nuclear power company Energoatom announced.
“Currently two nuclear reactors are operating at the station, producing electricity for its needs UkrainianEnergoatom said on the Telegram messaging app, adding that the fifth reactor was reconnected at 1.10pm. local time (and Greek time).
The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, Europe’s largest, was seized by Russian troops in March but continues to operate with Ukrainian engineers despite repeated shelling of the area around it, which Kyiv and Moscow blame each other for.
