“The EU should adopt a fairer attitude towards Turkey” the Turkish Foreign Minister asks

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey had a telephone conversation yesterday, Sunday (17/12), in the evening with the EU Commissioner responsible for Enlargement, Oliver Varkheli Hakan Fidan, asking him “the European Union to adopt a fairer attitude towards Turkey”.

During the telephone conversation with Commissioner Varkheli, Hakan Fidan expressed his disapproval of the fact that the joint statement on relations Turkey – EU it was not discussed at the Summit held last week, contrary to what was planned, and was referred to the next (EU Summit).

It is recalled that the joint statement was prepared by the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Policy and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

“The EU should act with a strategic understanding and promote relations with Turkey”

Hakan Fidan, as reported by the Athens News Agency, is reported to have pointed out to the commissioner that “in today’s world, where global challenges are intensifying, the EU should act with a strategic understanding and promote relations with Turkey.”

The Turkish minister reminded that the Turkey expects the European Union to take concrete measures as soon as possible on issues such as the modernization of the Customs Union, the strengthening of investments and the provision of visa facilities for Turkish citizens in the Schengen Area.

Fidan and Vargheli also discussed the Conclusions on the Enlargement of the General Affairs Council, held on 12 December and the Conclusions of the EU Summit, held on 14-15 December.
