A lot of fear, but – at least at the moment – no news of injured people. The earthquake that hit the Campi Flegrei area last night, and which was felt above all in Pozzuoli, near Naples, caused falling plaster and cracks in buildings, but above all a lot of fear. Many people, particularly after the most violent tremors – the strongest was that of magnitude 4.4, at 8.10 pm – they decided to spend the night outside the house, on the street, in squares, as far away as possible from buildings, or by going to another city, seeking hospitality from friends and relatives who live elsewhere.
The mayor of Pozzuoli ordered the setting up of four reception areas of those who, frightened by the earthquake, preferred not to stay at home, with basic necessities and psychologists, and 400 cots are arriving for the Municipalities of Bacoli and Pozzuoli: «The measure is essentially precautionary in nature», specified the Prefecture, «to ensure that the camp beds are immediately available to the local population in case of need». During the night, 36 families were evacuatedespecially those who live in the heart of the Campi Flegrei, the epicenter of the tremors.

Although the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology has repeatedly reported the importance of sticking to the data and not fretting, citizens were immediately alarmed, also because the seismic activity has been continuing for some time. Some say they don't trust reassurances. «We have been living in anxiety for monthsbut tonight's tremors were the strongest ever felt”, explained a resident of the area RaiNews.

This morning the summit is underway in the Prefecture in Naples. Traffic is regular, many schools remain closed (in Bacoli the mayor has decided to close them all as a precaution), and several families have chosen not to bring their children to the open institutions. Any decisions regarding the displaced will be made in the next few hours.
