The Deputy Mayor of Kiev is accused of helping military Ukrainians flee abroad

One of Kiev’s deputy mayors is accused of helping military people flee abroad to avoid military service, Ukrainian prosecutors said today. According to the indictment, the deputy mayor helped issue leaving the country for 31 men, registering them as fuel transport drivers, between May and June 2022. Some of the men did not return to the country after leaving for EU countries. The prosecutors did not. If convicted, he or she faces a sentence of up to seven years. From the Russian invasion in February 2022, Ukrainian men from 18 to 60 years of age are not allowed to travel abroad unless they are licensed by the military office in their area.
