The DEM pro -Curricane

The pro -Kurdish party of democracy and equality of peoples (DEM) has called on the Turkish parliament to pave the way for a new peace process by adopting legislation that would support PKK disarmament. The PKK declared a ceasefire in March following the historic appeal of the prisoner of the 1999 leader of Abdullah Ocalan to deposit arms and dismantling the organization. This move will potentially pave the way for the end of the 40 -year conflict with the Kurdish armed organization. Although the government of Tayyip Erdogan has not officially recognized a re -establishment of peace negotiations, the DEM is increasing calls for a legislative and political road map to peace. The previous peace process collapsed in 2015, leading to the reopening of conflict.
