The cost of electricity in Greece lower than the EU average – Comparative data

The latest Eurostat data, which cover the second half of 2021, show that the cost of electricity for households in Greece is clearly lower than the EU average.

Specifically, between July and December, household consumers in Greece paid 0.197 euros per kilowatt hour, while the corresponding cost at “27” was 0.237 euros.

Costs for Greek households were lower compared to other southern European countries such as Spain (0.282 euros per kilowatt hour), Italy (0.236 euros) and Portugal (0.217), but also compared to the two largest EU economies, the Germany and France.

Eurostat data include taxes while covering consumptions from 2,500 to 5,000 kilowatt hours per semester, ie the range that covers the vast majority of household tariffs.
