The big French newspapers call on their readers to vote for Emanuel Macron

Several French media outlets have called on the public to vote for outgoing French President Emmanuel Macron in today’s crucial second round of the presidential election.

The Elysee resident is facing far-right candidate Marine Le Pen today, for the second time, with political observers around the world watching closely to see if the coordinated effort by Jean-Marie Le Pen’s daughter’s staff to tarnish her image and to widen its reach will bring – or not – a major political upheaval with a global impact.

Le Parisien urged its readers not to “aggravate the global crisis” by voting for “a populist candidate”. Ms. Le Pen’s victory would mean the exact opposite of the national unity that is needed at the moment, the newspaper argued, adding that if the far-right candidate is elected president, France will become an unreliable partner.

The conservative newspapers Le Monde and Le Figaro both warned in their headlines against complacency over the head of state’s lead in opinion polls. “There is only one way to help prevent far-right candidate Marine Le Pen from coming to power: to vote for her opponent, Emanuel Macron,” Mont said, adding that she was making this admonition despite the outgoing’s mistakes. President and his responsibilities for strengthening the right and the far right in France.

The abstention “is in no way useful to save our country from the hand”, added the main article of Mont.
