Ripple is expanding its blockchain education program, the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), to four European countries: Ireland, France, Spain, and Italy.

European educational institutions became participants: Trinity College and the University of Dublin (Ireland), the School of Informatics and Advanced Methods (EPITA) in France, the international business school in Spanish Madrid Instituto de Empresa (IE) and Trent University (Italy).

The Instituto de Empresa will be required to host a three-day virtual workshop on digital asset regulation so that students learn more about the crypto industry and how it is embedded in business processes.

Since its inception in 2018, UBRI has donated more than $11 million to 14 European universities. Ripple welcomes the emergence of the European Union Cryptocurrency Regulation Act (MiCA).

“It is important for new generations to be given the necessary knowledge and skills to use the blockchain in practice. Bringing greater regulatory clarity means opening up more opportunities for crypto projects to flourish, and Europe is ready to accelerate this mission,” said Eric van Miltenburg, Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Ripple.

Ripple has also expanded its UBRI collaboration with the Center for Blockchain Technology (CBT) at University College London (UCL). The Blockchain Technology Center will continue to contribute to XRP Ledger (XRPL) related projects by organizing training workshops and conferences. Dr. Paolo Tasca, who founded CBT, said that with the support of Hedera and the UBRI program, the center intends to make the UK a leader in blockchain technology innovation.

In June, Ripple entered into a partnership agreement with the University of Toronto, which expressed its willingness to become an independent XRP Ledger validator.
