A huge explosion caused by a possible ignition of chemicals killed at least 14 people and injured more than 700 yesterday, Saturday, at Iran’s largest port in Badar Abbas, Iranian state media reported. Josein Zafari, a spokesman for the Iranian crisis management organization, appeared to attribute the explosion to poor chemical storage in containers in the port of Shahid Rajai in the port. “The cause of the explosion was the chemicals in the containers,” he told Iran Ina’s news agency. “The general manager of the Crisis Management Organization had issued warnings in this port during visits and had pointed out the likelihood of danger,” Zafari said.
