Texas Massacre: Dozens Killed in Gun Strike at Primary School

Fifteen people, 14 children and an adult were killed in an armed attack on a primary school of the community of Uvalde, at Texas of United Statessaid Governor Greg Abbott.

The perpetrator, 18 years old, who is believed to have been shot by police officers who rushed to the scene, is also dead., Abbott added. Abbott says the perpetrator was carrying a revolver and possibly a carbine. Earlier, the first reports from hospital officials said two were dead and 13 children were injured. The incident happened at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, about 135 kilometers west of San Antonio.

The children were taken by ambulance or bus to Uvalde Memorial Hospital, officials from Uvalde Hospital said. The state of health of children is unclear as to whether the dead are included in this number.

Another hospital, San Antonio University Hospital, said a 66-year-old woman was in critical condition.

The nature and severity of the injuries were not immediately known, but the perpetrator was taken into custody shortly after 1pm, the Uvalde police department said.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District said it reported an active perpetrator at Robb Elementary School, which has just under 600 students. Earlier, the district said all schools in the district had been closed due to gunfire in the area.
