Tether CEO Comments on Pavel Durov’s Arrest

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino commented on the arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov on his X (formerly Twitter).

“The arrest of Pavel Durov for allowing free communication via Telegram is deeply concerning. If we as a society lose the battle for freedom of speech and communication, everything else will be irrelevant, the dark ages will be our future,” Ardoino wrote.

On the evening of August 24, 2024, the founder of the Telegram messenger was arrested at Le Bourget Airport, which is located near Paris. Against this news, the Toncoin (TON) coin fell by more than 15% in a day.

Subsequently, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin commented on Durov’s arrest. He said that it could have a negative impact on freedom of communication in Europe in the future.

Also, the founder of TRON and advisor to the cryptocurrency exchange HTX (formerly Huobi) Justin Sun supported the founder of Telegram and announced his readiness to donate $1 million.
