The Central Bank of Russia announced the start of testing the digital ruble platform. According to the press service, the first transfers in digital rubles between citizens have already been successfully carried out.

The creation of a prototype of the digital ruble platform was completed in December 2021. 12 banks expressed their desire to take part in testing the platform. Among them are Sberbank, VTB, Alfa-Bank, Gazprombank, Tinkoff Bank, Promsvyazbank, Rosbank, Ak Bars Bank, Dom.RF Bank, SKB-Bank, Soyuz and TKB Bank.
Now three banks from the pilot group have already connected to the platform. Two of them successfully completed a full cycle of digital ruble transfers between clients using banking mobile applications.
The Central Bank itself does not specify who has already connected to the platform. However, VTB and Promsvyazbank have already reported that they are “the first in Russia to test the transfer of digital rubles between clients.
Clients not only opened digital wallets on the digital ruble platform through a mobile application, but also exchanged non-cash rubles from their accounts for digital ones and then transferred digital rubles between themselves. The remaining participants in the pilot group plan to join the testing of the digital ruble platform as they complete their IT systems.

As noted in the Central Bank, the uniqueness of the digital ruble lies in the fact that it will be possible to access your digital wallet through the mobile application of any bank that serves the client.

At the first stage, the issuance of digital rubles, the opening of digital wallets for banks and citizens, as well as transfers between citizens will be tested. At the second stage, it is planned to test operations for payment for goods and services in trade and service enterprises, payments for public services, the implementation of smart contracts, as well as interaction with the Federal Treasury.
In the future, it is planned to introduce the possibility of paying in places without the Internet (offline mode), organize interaction with financial intermediaries and digital platforms, and also provide for the possibility of conducting transactions with the digital ruble for non-resident customers.
