US electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Inc plans to add equipment to its Shanghai plant to repair key components such as electric motors and battery cells. This is stated in a document submitted by Tesla to the Shanghai authorities.
More than 1.3 million electric and hybrid vehicles were sold in China, the world’s largest automotive market, last year. Regulatory authorities in China are adding recycling rules for key components of electric vehicles to save materials and protect the environment.
The document also says Tesla will add manufacturing facilities for automotive designs and electric motor controllers. Details of production capacity are not provided.

Tesla, which makes Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles in China, is expanding production capacity for electric vehicle components to localize its supply chain. Tesla also launched an electric vehicle charger plant in Shanghai last year.
Tesla sold over 35,000 locally made vehicles in China last month and is exporting Chinese-made vehicles to Europe.
