Intel Alder Lake processors performed very well in synthetic tests this week, and now the results of a stress test of a certain CPU Alder Lake in the AIDA64 application have appeared. Judging by them, the 12th generation Intel Core will be about the same “warm” and gluttonous as its predecessors. Despite major changes in architecture and even external design (don’t forget about the new LGA1700 socket).

The stress test data was shared by the manager of Lenovo’s gaming desktop design department. According to him, in the assembly with the top-end video card Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 “there was another component that needs 350 watts in order to work at full capacity.” This component turned out to be the processor.

What kind of CPU model of the Alder Lake series we are talking about is a question, but it is logical to combine the top-end GeForce RTX 3090 with the top-end CPU, which is the Core i9-12900K. According to HWiNFO, in the AIDA64 stress test, the peak processor temperature was 93 ° C, the average temperature was 86 ° C. Maximum power consumption is 255W, which corresponds to Power Limit 2 (255W). It is not clear what kind of cooling system was used, but, according to a Lenovo employee, this component was called the Rescuer cooling system (Rescuer is a famous series of Lenovo gaming devices in China, so we are most likely talking about LSS) and it allowed to keep the CPU temperature at level of 86 ° C for 50 minutes of the test.
Despite the fact that Alder Lake turned out to be not cold CPUs (at least the top model), they still cannot reach the Ryzen 5000: they were originally designed to work for a long time at temperatures above 90 ° C. AMD even had to provide explanations on this issue more than once.
