Telefónica’s smart business to save energy: 20% less in stores like those of Cortefiel

The energy savings from the application of artificial intelligence can be quantified. Telefónica figures up to 20% of the energy that the Cortefiel group has stopped using thanks to the use of IoT solutions for companies in 37 stores in Madrid and Andalusia.

Through Telefónica Empresas, the operator provides services to manage both the lighting such as air conditioning by the Tendam group, to which, in addition to Cortefiel, the brands Pedro del Hierro, Springfield, Women’secret, Hoss / Intropia and the Fifty outlet belong.

According to data that EL MUNDO has had access to, the technology has served in this particular case to reduce Cortefiel’s energy consumption by 3,700 MWh from 2016 to date, electricity that would be equivalent to that of a thousand Spanish households in one year. Tendam plans to expand the use of this same artificial intelligence to another 17 establishments.

This type of tool is used to minimize consumption and regulate lighting and temperature. In addition to contributing to sustainability, IoT technology allows remote centralized management of automated store elements.

Cortefiel is an example of companies that have contracted this type of service with Telefónica, but there is more. Mutual MuprespaFor example, it also contracted these services with the telephone operator for a hundred service centers and other buildings. Caja Rural de Jaà © n It also hired Telefónica to simplify energy management in its branch network. For both Muprespa and Caja Rural de Jaà © n, technological efficiencies would have allowed a reduction in energy consumption of between 15% and 20%, according to data from the companies themselves. Malaga University, which has also turned to the IoT to achieve greater energy efficiency, calculates a 20% drop in consumption, and thus has avoided, for example, maintenance teams from traveling to its facilities.

This technological solution seems to fit the coronavirus crisis, with fewer contacts and interactions and the growing need during the pandemic for make working methods more flexible and adapt to sanitary restrictions: changing schedules, ventilation of the premises, control of user flows in physical stores …

Telefónica’s IoT solutions, within its Eco Smart seal, enable remote measurement and adjustment of energy consumption, access to history, demand analysis, air conditioning and lighting management, and monitoring information on consumption with studies, notices of incidents, monitoring of them, calculation of contracted powers and recommendations to optimize efficiency.
