Teenage couple who abandoned baby in emergency room bathroom testify

The teenage couple, parents of a baby found abandoned in the women’s bathroom of an emergency room in São Bernardo do Campo, in São Paulo, gave a statement to the Civil Police on Friday night (26).

The Public Security Department (SSP) of São Paulo reported that the couple arrived at the 6th Police District of the city accompanied by those responsible and confessed to the crime.

Both were heard and released because, according to the police, it is not an act in flagrante.

Therefore, it is up to the legal representatives to present them at the police station when requested. The incident was registered as abandonment of an incapacitated person.

“Take care of him”

The child, just 9 months old, was found by a cleaning employee at the health unit, who pressed the “panic button” located in the bathroom to call the nursing team.

O baby was on the floor wrapped in three pillowcases and a sweatshirt. According to the medical team, a note was found with the phrase: “Good afternoon. Please take good care of him and take him to the doctor.”

Security camera footage showed the teenager standing in front of the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) for 11 minutes before entering with the child in her arms. She left the health unit about 20 minutes before the baby was located.

The City of São Bernardo do Campo reported that the child is doing well and is being monitored by the child protection council.
