A fan of the American singer Taylor Swift will be compensated in six thousand reais for moral and material damages due to the postponement of the show, at the Nilton Santos Stadium, in Rio de Janeiro in November 2023. The date change announcement was made about two hours before the start of the event.
The decision of the 15th Special Civil Court of the Madureira Region states that the technical problems were reported by the media and became 'notorious facts'. The judge highlighted that the media was already reporting on the forecast of extreme heat in the city of Rio de Janeiro, making it the company's responsibility to try to reduce any damage to consumers.
A Thermal sensation in Rio de Janeiro it reached 59.7 °C, on November 18th, when the presentation would take place. A Time For Fun (T4F), the company responsible for organizing the event, said that the postponement was decided “due to the adverse weather conditions today and prioritizing public safety”.
Furthermore, the day before the cancellation (17), Ana Clara Benevides, 23 years old, a fan of the singer, died after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest during the tour show The Eras Tour by Taylor Swift.
“The failure to provide the service, which did not prove to be efficient, is clear,” stated the decision. Therefore, the company was ordered to pay R$1,000.00 for material damages and R$5,000.00 for moral damages, totaling R$6,000.00.
