T. Theodorikakos to Pakistanis: No fine is canceled for masks imposed on the Constitution

Response to the Pakistani community, that no fine will be canceled that was imposed in Syntagma Square on New Year’s Eve, for not using a mask, was sent by the Minister of Civil Protection Takis Theodorikakos, while in a post on social media, he emphasizes: “The laws are laws and apply to everyone. ”

It is noted that during the checks carried out by the police in Syntagma Square, where Pakistani immigrants had gathered to celebrate the change of time, 60 violations were confirmed against those gathered, who were not wearing masks.

The Cultural Association of Greece-Pakistan, on the occasion of this event, sent a letter to the Minister of Civil Protection, apologizing and leniency, as they were not aware that this year, as happened every year, the events of the Municipality of Athens and the arrival of immigrants in Syntagma Square was spontaneous and not organized.

The letter signed by the president of the Association states in detail:

“As the Cultural Association of Greece-Pakistan, we want to inform you that the gathering of Pakistani nationals on New Year’s Eve in the Constitution was spontaneous and not organized.

We were not aware that the events of the Municipality of Athens will not take place in Syntagma Square as every year.

As soon as our members were informed by the police authorities, they left immediately peacefully.

We would like the Minister of Civil Protection to show leniency in the fines that were imposed, for their cancellation.

As the Greece-Pakistan Cultural Association, we want to assure you that we act in accordance with the laws and principles of the Greek State.

Thank you in advance. Be well.

Yours sincerely

SYED MOHAMMAD JAMIL

President of the Cultural Association of Greece-Pakistan “.

Mr. Theodorikakos, rejected the request and in his post on social media, states characteristically:

“We are not going to cancel any fines imposed by the Greek Police on members of the Pakistani community on New Year’s Eve at the Constitution because they did not wear a mask. Laws are laws and apply to everyone even if the presence of these people was indeed spontaneous.”
