The presence of the minister at the beginning of the training, which was originally scheduled for Monday, January 17, has a symbolic purpose, as from the first moment he has stated that “the security of universities is a priority of the government and is a universal request of Greek society.” , while he considers it very critical to have the right education before taking up duties at universities.
“It is not possible to send University Institutions Protection Teams without proper training,” Mr Theodorikakos said in a recent statement. the generation of people who have experienced the suffering in the university from bahalakides “.
The 400 recruits are 303 men and 97 women. Their training will last four months and includes theoretical and practical training.
The training program was prepared by the Department of Studies and Public Relations of the School of Police in conjunction with the guidelines of the leadership of the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Hellenic Police.
Theoretical training includes, in addition to the curriculum of each course, the development and analysis of real scenarios and virtual events.
On a practical level, visits will be made to training teams of the Hellenic Police, with appropriate equipment and training materials, to contribute to their operational capacity.
According to the program, the trainee Special Guard is considered successful who at the end of his / her training collects the score base of 10 in each grading of the practical and written test.
As pointed out by the Headquarters of the Hellenic Police, the goal of the program is to develop the trainees mental, spiritual and physical skills in order to obtain the necessary professional training to meet their mission.
The special guards who will staff the OPPI will be trained in the fields of legal science, social and moral education, vocational training and physical education, self-defense – self-defense, as well as the handling of weapons and their use during the execution of their mission .
It is noted that the men and women of OPPI will not carry weapons but, as announced by the ministry, will only carry self-defense equipment.
After four months, according to the Ministry of Civil Protection, they will be ready to take up service.
Where they will be placed, however, and how they will be utilized, will depend purely on the “Safety and Protection Plans” to be submitted by the university authorities, who are also responsible for the planning, according to the law, which began to is valid from February 2021 under Michalis Chrysochoidis.
By law, the senators had six months to submit their security plans, but were extended until February 2022.
The security plan of each university must include the controlled entrance to the university, cameras so that you can have a picture of this entrance and the possibility of utilizing the Protection Teams of the University Institutions.
In the first phase, the special guards of OPPI, once these plans are completed, will not be used in all universities but, according to police sources, in four, while the rest will have only electronic security means, as the presence of police officers is not considered necessary. .
